For the public
- 01 Use foot-overbridges / underpasses / zebra crossings; crossing anywhere at random is a punishable offence.
- 02 Do not use headphones or talk on the phone while crossing the road.
- 03 Use the footpath when walking.
- 04 Do not board or get off a moving vehicle.
- 05 Do not keep construction materials or shop goods on the road or footpath.
- 06 Do not risk travelling on the roof, bumper or footboard of a bus.
- 07 Do not board or alight except at a bus bay / designated stop.
- 08 Passengers should never urge the driver to speed.
- 09 Refrain from smoking on public transport.
- 10 Do not cross a railway crossing while the red light is on; cross after the train has passed.
- 11 Do not eat anything given by strangers while travelling.
- 12 Give priority to persons with disabilities, the elderly, children and women in using seats.
- 13 Do not stand on the road waiting for transport except at a bus bay.
For parents and teachers
- 01 Give young children basic knowledge of traffic rules.
- 02 Encourage them to walk on the footpath.
- 03 Teach children that safety comes first.
- 04 Familiarise children with traffic law.
For drivers
- 01 Before driving, check all documents and your driving licence, and keep up-to-date papers with you.
- 02 Refrain from unnecessary honking.
- 03 Drive with your seatbelt fastened.
- 04 Obey the speed limit.
- 05 Do not change lanes frequently.
- 06 Do not overtake unnecessarily; overtake with care.
- 07 Do not use loose or temporary stickers other than a permanent institutional sticker.
- 08 Check the vehicle's parts to prevent accidents.
- 09 Do not drive against the flow of traffic.
- 10 Do not obstruct traffic by parking on the carriageway.
- 11 Do not carry passengers beyond capacity.
- 12 Do not drive while tired, unwell or intoxicated.
- 13 Always keep the left lane open.
- 14 Avoid picking up and dropping passengers at intersections.
- 15 Know and obey traffic law and signals.
- 16 When stopping, always pull over to the left of the road.
- 17 Use indicators when turning right or left.
For motorcyclists
- 01 Before riding, check all documents and your driving licence, and keep up-to-date papers with you.
- 02 Do not carry more than two people on a motorcycle.
- 03 Both rider and passenger must wear helmets.
- 04 Do not ride a motorcycle on the footpath.
- 05 Do not ride against the flow of traffic.
- 06 Do not obstruct traffic by parking on the carriageway.
- 07 Do not ride through traffic signals.
For owners
- 01 Before hiring a driver, verify their skill, valid licence and address.
- 02 Check the driver's knowledge of mechanics and traffic law.
- 03 Make sure the driver does not drive while intoxicated or unwell.
- 04 Give importance to adequate rest for the driver.
- 05 Provide two drivers for long-route buses / trucks / covered vans.
- 06 Keep the vehicle's up-to-date papers in the vehicle.
- 07 Refrain from fitting or using hydraulic horns, hooters and beacon lights (except where permitted).
- 08 Do not apply tinted film to microbus windows.
